Hollywood has a tradition to convert good books into screen books for example it have a long list with dozens of good names. Do you know it also inspires novelists to write movie plots and screenplays… perhaps not! It’s true. These writers wrote best selling novels and Academy Awards wining films like A Star is Born. Graham Greene
If someone asks you, who inspired mostly the Hollywood, you should pronounce Graham’s name. More than 60 movies have been made on his work even he himself adopted his own novels to make films including ‘The Third Man’ and ‘Our Man in Havana’. As a producer director and writer he did not like other director’s film made on his work.
Richard Price
One of the most successful screenplay writers and novels who authored novels like ‘Lush Life’ and ‘Clockers’ did many films in Hollywood. He is a favorite name in Hollywood and he wrote for ‘The Color of Money’, ‘Shaft’ including HBO show ‘The Wire’ and a video concept for Michael Jackson’s ‘Bad’ album. He knows the difference between the two arts that’s why he writes accordingly and is favorite writer of Hollywood unlike other authors.
Vladimir Nabokov
Russian writer Vladimir never authored screenplay for money but he had to involve in Kubrick’s film based on Nabokov’s best selling novel ‘Lolita’. He had to work for director Kubrick so his book can be converted into a film having the soul of the story of Lolita. It’s another matter he could not feel good after releasing the film as he said, “I do not wish to imply that Kubrick’s film is mediocre; in its own right, it is first-rate, but it is not what I wrote.”
F. Scott Fitzgerald
One of the greatest American writers F. Scott Fitzgerald was the unluckiest novelist worked for Hollywood. He authored countless films but he was credited only once in ‘The Great Gatsby”. He inked best selling novels including The Beautiful and Damned, The Side of Paradise, Tender is the Night, etc.
Dorothy Parker
Dorothy did only one movie A Star is Born an Oscar winning film eventually she was blacklisted in Hollywood for her left win politics. Even when she was interviewed about her experience in Hollywood she said, “Hollywood money isn’t money. It is congealed snow, melts in your hand, and there you are. I can’t talk about Hollywood. It was a horror to me when I was there and it’s a horror to look back on.”
Kazuo Ishiguro
His two novels – “The Remains of the Day” and “Never Let Me Go” were converted into commercially successful films despite he did not write their screenplays. He was not comfortable to write screenplay as he wrote only a few screenplays like “The While Countess.”
