One of the most famous American singer-songwriter and actress, Katy Perry entered in music as a breeze. She is known for her dressing styles, singing and universal appeal. She was born on 25 October 1984 in Santa Barbara, California into a pastor family. Her mother Kathryn Elizabeth Hudson was a West Coast scenester while her father was an evangelist. Katy adopted singing as a tradition and started to sing in local Church. She grew up with gospel music. She learned dance from seasoned dancers and started with Lindy Hop, swing and jitterbug. She admitted in Dos Pueblos High School but had to leave the school to pursue singing career which she covered up through GED. Katy was very attracted to the music as she often used to practice with music cassettes. She learned vocal signing too and began to wait for right opportunity.

At the age of 15, Katy’s singing grabbed attention of rock veterans from Nashville who suggested her to improve her song writings. In Nashville, Katy got training from country music veterans by recording several music demos. Soon she singed a deal with Christian music label Red Hill. Katy released her gospel rock album in 2001 as Katy Hudson, which was a failure. In 2001, Katy left her home to move Los Angeles where she record an album ‘Island’ with Glen Ballard which was another unsuccessful release. Katy joined Columbia Records in 2004 and voiced for leading female singer. Here she worked on her own album but was again dropped after completion of 80% work of the album. She had to struggle a lot to establish herself in the music industry. Meanwhile she appeared in cameo roles in various music videos and films. Finally in 2007, Columbia Records released her debut album “One of the Boys”. This became a great hit in the US and Katy was appreciated by Madonna and other prominent music personalities. In 2008, Columbia Records released her singles ‘I Kissed a Girl’ and ‘Hot n Cold’. Both were commercial success. Same year her video ‘Ur So Gay’ was released to introduce her to the world. It was the starting of her shining career. Her song topped in Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks. She sang it in annual Warped Tour music festival and acclaimed by the critics as a perfect signer.

Her album ‘One of the Boys’ reached number nine in the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum by the RIAA. She won several international awards and nominations for her song ‘I Kissed a Girl’ like nomination in Grammy Awards for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (2009), 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. Katy won Best New Act in the MTV Europe Music Awards (2008), BRIT Awards and so on. Perry also enjoyed commercial hit world tours covering Germany, Canada, Britain, Germany and other countries. Since then Katy has released 3 albums (One of the Boys, Teenage Dream, The Matrix) and several singles. Today she is one of the most known music celebrities who has visited almost most countries during her successful world tours (Hello Katy Tour and California Dreams Tour). In addition to this, Katy has acted and voiced in several films and television shows like Get Him to the Greek, The Smurfs, The Young and the Restless, Wildfire, American Idol, The X Factor, Sesame Street, The Simpsons and How I Met Your Mother. She has been nominated six times for Grammy Awards as well as she has been ranked twice in FHM Magazine’s 100 Sexiest Women poll on #23 and #37 in 2009 & 2010 respectively.
